What is Social Studies?
Social research is a systematic study of social phenomena, it is mainly divided into quantitative and qualitative research.
In this course,Grade 9 students will study contemporary governance, civic knowledge, and some history of Canada.
What will the students do?
In social studies, students learn about history, geography, civics, and economics to understand human behavior, societies, and their place in the world. They develop critical thinking and research skills to analyze past and present events, explore different perspectives, and prepare to become informed and active citizens.
What is it Goal?
Its main goal is to help students develop into active, informed, and responsible citizens by understanding their own identity, their place in the world, and their contributions to society. It achieves this by teaching students to think critically about the past, present, and future through concepts like continuity and change, cause and consequence, and perspective.
What will we learning in social studies?
Studying social studies helps us understand social operation, analyze social problems, improve critical thinking ability, and promote the better development of individuals and society. It can help us understand the connection between personal difficulties and public issues, view various phenomena in life more objectively, and prepare for understanding social changes, participating in public affairs and responding to future challenges.

Main Research Methods
-
Quantitative research -Through quantitative data and statistics analysis, the empirical laws of social phenomena are tested. -The goal is to draw a universal and credible conclusion.

Qualitative research -Collect information by direct observation, communication with research subjects or analysis of texts. -Focus on an in-depth understanding of the background and significance of specific case, sometimes with more emphasis on accuracy than universality.
Other Common Methods

Literature research method: Carry out research by consulting an analyzing existing literature.
Survey method: Collect a large amount of data through questionnaires , interviews, etc.
Observation method: Directly observe the research subjects and their behaviour.
Ethnographic research: A qualitative research method for conducting field surveys in the community.
Experimental method: Test the causal relationship between variables under controlled conditions.
Research field
The field of social research is very wide, including but not limited to:
-Social stratification and class
-Social mobility and religion
-Social law and deviant behaviour
-Medical care, education and economy and other fields
-Emerging research fields such as Internet, social networks, etc.
