What do they need to do?

The overall mission of the English First Nations is to protect and revitalize their cultural, linguistic and autonomy in response to past traumas and challenges in modern society, such as improving economic, educational and infrastructure conditions, and maintaining their status and political rights in modern Canadian society. Specific tasks include: preserving and inheriting the revitalization and promotion of culture and language, restoring economic development, pursuing autonomy and safeguarding land rights.
English First Peoples 12 focuses on Indigenous texts and provides opportunities for students to reflect on their learning using the First Peoples Principles of Learning. Throughout the course, we will focus on the First Peoples poetry, short stories and oral stories. They encouraged the students to think beyond the surface of these texts, as they try to find meaning and the importance of sharing these stories. They will finish the course with an inquiry research essay regarding Indigenous issues and a reflection on their process.

Assignments in English First Peoples courses are diverse and often center on themes important to Indigenous communities, such as identity, connection to the land, oral traditions, and the impacts of colonization.
Because boarding school brings trauma, we need to remember these histories at all times and make up for them as much as possible.
